Welsh Premier League champions The New Saints (TNS) have broken a 44-year-old world record for the longest winning streak in top-flight football after they secured their 27th successive win in all competitions.
They won 2-0 at Cefn Druids to set a new record, which replaces the 26 consecutive wins achieved by Dutch side Ajax during the 1971-72 season. In the current run, TNS have won all 21 of their league games in addition to four in two Welsh cups as well as two in the Scottish Challenge Cup, in which they were invited to play this season.
The Welsh champions have also won the Welsh domestic treble in the last two seasons.
Scottish fifth-tier side East Kilbride had earlier thought they had broken Ajax's record earlier this season however they were undone by the fact that the official mark can only be set by teams playing in their country's top tier.
