The national U23 head coach Samson Siasia has named his final 18-man squad for the Olympic Games with former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles star Taiwo Awoniyi left out.
Awoniyi has only been named as an alternate player alongside Godwin Saviour, Sunshine Stars winger Stanley Dimgba and Kano Pillars goalkeeper Yusuf Mohammed ahead of the Games, which starts on August 4 in Brazil.
The two overaged players for the Games are Super Eagles skipper John Mikel Obi and goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi.
In a related development, the July 27 friendly game between Samson Siasia's team and the Honduras U23 team has been called off but the Dream Team will still make use of the date by playing an unnamed team from the United States of America according to the National U23 team's media officer Timi Ebikagboro, who revealed the information via Twitter earlier today.
