Politician Remanded In Prison Over Wife Murder

Politician Charles Eni- Umukoro has been remanded by the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday, May 9 over the alleged murder of his wife, Louisa Eni- Umukoro who happened to be a director in the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The court hearing was presided by Justice Mary Anne Aninih in FCT who ordered the remand of Eni- Umukoro in Kuje prison pending of his bail application.

In February, the IGP had charged Eni- Umukoro with a culpable homicide and under Section 221 of the Penal Code, it is punishable by death although the defendant denied every allegation brought against him.

It is said that Charles Eni- Umukoro had been the cause of his wife's death by "hitting her on her head which caused internal haemorrhage with the knowlege that her death would be the probable consequence'. The Department of Morbid Anatomy and Histopathology had brought forward an autopsy result which was attached to the charge. This autopsy result shows that the deceased died from "subdural haemorrhage" resulting from two major bruises on both sides of the neck, which the doctors said were a result of 'external force'.

The deceased is survived by her son and aged mother.
