Former President Obasanjo Pays Condolence Visit To Borno Stat Over The Death Of Alhaji Shettima Ali Monguno

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo touched down in Borno State on Saturday, July 16, 2016. Baba Iyabo as he is fondly called is in the Northeastern State to pay his condolence to the people of the state over the death of Nigeria's first Petroleum Minister, Alhaji (Dr.) Shettima Ali Monguno, who died at the age of 95 on July 8.
Borno State Governor Kassim Shettima received the entourage of the former President before leading them to the Shehu of Borno's palace and to the deceased's family resident. Obasanjo condoled with the late Minister's family as he disclosed that Alhaji (Dr.) Monguno, a former colleague, was an epitome of gentility.

In his words, the former President said: "There are those we call founding fathers of independence, Shettima Ali Monguno is one of them so from the faithful point of view, we have lost one of the architect of Nigeria at independence. We lost a great citizen not only of this state but of Nigeria."

"I had the opportunity to serve with him in the administration of Yakubu Gowon. He was a complete gentleman. An epitome of gentility in all ramification of the word. He was a lover of Nigeria because any issue that is of national interest you will found Shettima clinging solidly to it.

"He was neither parochial or napotic. Our consolation is that he lived his life for his family, his people and his country and our prayer is may his gentle soul be with Allah." he concluded.
